Petroglyph National Monument

Petroglyph National Monument is a natural monument that stretches along Albuquerque’s West Mesa, a volcanic rock slope that dominates the city’s western horizon. One of the largest petroglyph sites in North America, the boulders feature more than 20,000 prehistoric images carved by Ancestral Pueblo peoples and early Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago. The stone relics allow those visiting Albuquerque, New Mexico to share the cultural heritage of those who lived and traveled through the Rio Grande Valley.

Albuquerque Museum of Art and History

Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

Owned and operated by the 19 Indian Pueblos of New Mexico, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center showcases the artifacts and history of traditional Pueblo cultures and their contemporary art. The center is best known for its collection of Pueblo pottery and murals, and houses more than 20 murals and 2,500 pieces pottery, jewelry, baskets, textiles, archeological artifacts, paintings, photographs, and prints. The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center also offers traditional Native American dances every Saturday and Sunday, where visitors can experience dance groups from the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico as well as Plains Style, Apache, Hopi, and Navajo dancers.

American International Rattlesnake Museum

Hidden away in a quiet corner of historic Old Town is the world’s largest collection of different rattlesnake species. The animal conservation museum boasts live displays of 34 species, from albino snakes to a Gila Monster. The museum is also home to a unique array of snake-related artwork, artifacts, and memorabilia, including ceramics, jewelry, snakebite kits, and more. The scenic trails around Albuquerque offer a diverse range of volcanic terrain, dirt paths, and a complex trail system that caters to all skill levels. These hiking trails are located in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains and the Cibola National Forest.

Here's a few of the top places to hike in the Albuquerque area:

The Sandia Mountain Foothills

The Sandia Mountains are conveniently located near Albuquerque, offering ample opportunities for outdoor exploration. With 2650 acres of land and numerous trails, visitors can easily immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area. Here's a complete list of trailhead access points. Some of the trails include the following:

The Sandia Mountains / Cibola National Forest

The Cibola National Forest is located on the Eastern face of the Sandia Foothills. It offers a variety of hiking trails suitable for all skill levels of hiker. West Mesa Aquatic Center

Spacious indoor & outdoor aquatic facility with an Olympic-size pool, waterslides & diving boards. This is an excellent pool for lap swimming, recreational swimming, exercise classes, swim meets (stadium seating to accommodate 800 spectators) and other activities.

Highland Pool

400 Jackson SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108

A 25-meter by 25-yard swimming pool with a 3-meter and 1-meter diving board and an outdoor wading pool. Highland Pool is one of three public pools operated by the City of Albuquerque used in conjunction with Albuquerque Public School events.

Highland Pool is available to school students and athletes, as well as the public.

Los Altos Pool

Originally built in the 1950s as an outdoor pool, Los Altos has since been converted as an indoor pool. The main pool's length is 25 meters. Los Altos Pool facility is located near a skate park and softball fields.

Betsy Patterson Pool at Sandia High School

Betsy Patterson Pool At Sandia HS is an indoor 25-yard swimming pool with two 1-meter diving boards. The pool is available to school students and athletes, as well as the public. Due to this arrangement some shift times and dates are subject to change. Please regularly check updated hours.

Valley Pool

A 25-yard swimming pool with two 1-meter diving boards and an outdoor wading pool. Swimming lessons are offered in the fall, spring, and summer at Valley.

American International Rattlesnake Museum

The American International Rattlesnake Museum is located in Old Town Albuquerque and houses rattlesnakes from all over the world. Discover why rattlesnakes don't deserve their bad reputation.

Petroglyph National Monument

Get outdoors by taking a hike on one of the trails at the Petroglyph National Monument, site of one of the largest petroglyph sites in North America. Native Americans and Spanish settlers carved symbols and designs into rocks hundreds of years ago, and the images can be viewed on a number of trails ranging from a short walk to a 2.2-mile hike.

National Museum of Nuclear Science and History

Mas - Tapas y Vino
